Local wildlife photographer Bill Murdoch is using his photography talents to help raise money for Wildlife Rescue.
The WRA’s 2016 calendar, which costs $15, features three of Bills images, an osprey in mid-air, a ring-necked pheasant at Deer Lake Park and a great horned owl in autumnal foliage.
Seven years ago Bill picked up his daughter’s digital camera and was amazed at the quality of the photos. He quickly became hooked on wildlife photography and his images have been in demand by a number of local and national organizations including BC Birding magazine, Canadian Wildlife Federation and BC Nature Trust.
This past summer he got in touch with Wildlife Rescue at the suggestion of a neighbour who volunteers at the organization. “He turned up on our doorstep with his portfolio and we were just blown away with the quality of his photos,” says Wildlife Rescue spokesperson Yolanda Brooks. “He obviously has a genuine love of wildlife and a keen eye for what makes a great shot.”
Another local photographer Paul Steeves, who is a long-time volunteer at Wildlife Rescue, also contributed several photos, including the front cover shot, for the fundraising calendar.
The 13-month calendar, which costs $15, is available from Wildlife Rescue’s office at 5216 Glencarin Drive. It can also be ordered by phone on 604 526 2747, ext. 502 or online at www.wildliferescue.ca. All proceeds will go directly to Wildlife Rescue.
