Volunteer Program Assistant
Hours: 30 hrs/week
Dates: 6 – 16 weeks contracts between April 23rd – September 1st , 2019
Pay: $12.65 per hour (13.85 from June 1st)

and motivate them? Want to make a difference for wildlife? Wildlife Rescue is
seeking an enthusiastic, hard-working Volunteer Program Assistant to assist
with the coordination of a busy volunteer program. Wildlife Rescue has approximately 300 active volunteers
during the spring and summer in a variety of positions. Come and work
alongside staff and volunteers, and help support and grow our Volunteer Program
during our very busy baby bird season.
Positions are made available
through the federal Canada Summer Jobs program, administered by Service Canada.
To be eligible, applicants:
- are between 15
and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- are Canadian
citizens, permanent residents or persons to whom refugee protection has been
conferred under the Immigration & Refugee Protection Act for the duration
of the employment; and
- have a valid
Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to
work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial legislation and
regulations.
Responsibilities
- Support with recruitment of volunteers
- Deliver information sessions for new volunteers
- Onboarding of new volunteers
- Scheduling of volunteers
- Evaluate and create training materials for volunteers
- Support
volunteers in various roles
- Participate in the Outreach Program and represent Wildlife
Rescue at events
- Work alongside outreach volunteers at events
- Provide
direction to members of the public with injured or orphaned wildlife
- Educate the public on species-specific behaviors
of urban wildlife and common
human
wildlife conflicts
- Schedule volunteers for outreach events and communicate with
event planners
- Assist with the development of the weekly volunteer
newsletter
- Represent
Wildlife Rescue in a positive manner as a first contact to the public
- Follow
data collection procedures
Requirements
- Experience
working with people in a fast-paced, dynamic environment (e.g. restaurant,
retail)
- Excellent communication
skills
- Good organization
and time management
- Reliability
- Patience and
compassion
- Able to work 4-5 days
a week, which can include weekends
Training

training to our systems, protocols and procedures
